Real reasons for flight resumption’s readiness-Aviation Minister

Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika has expressed readiness for flight resumption even though 90 percent of strategies put in place not seen by people.

Sirika identified the Very High-Frequency Omnidirectional Range ( VOR) and other safety systems put in place assuring the readiness of the aviation.

He made this disclosure at a media conference held with the presidential task force on COVID-19 committee after a test flight from Abuja airport to Lagos airport to ensure readiness for the flight resumptions.

“90 per cent of what we do in civil aviation is not seen by people like the Very High-Frequency Omnidirectional Range ( VOR) and other safety systems put in place but aviation is ready, I don’t want to give a timeline but when we are set to open, we open.”

On palliatives for the sector, the minister said “this will be announced soon by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Ministry of Finance.

”Government is coming with the palliative very soon in conjunction with the CBN and the Ministry of Finance, by next week we will come out with the amount and palliative will be announced within the week. Within the economic sustainability plan. It will go round the entire civil aviation.”

Meanwhile, the Presidential task force on COVID-19 expressed satisfaction with the handling of the test flight from Abuja ahead of reopening aviation industry stating that the industry was ready but will not give a timeline or date for the restart.

The coordinator, PTF COVID-19, Dr Sani Aliyu gave his assessment when he arrived with the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika on an Aero Contractors flight from Abuja after undergoing the same process at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport.

His word: “Aviation is a highly regulated sector and this is the new normal. Things have changed and things have changed because we have a disease killing people.

“The aviation industry has shown what they have done as an industry and now it is left to Nigerians to do what they need to to be safe.

“While aviation has done tremendously well, what will protect you is yourself and we equally will make sure Nigerians can be safe when they fly.”

Oyo Govt. not responsible for delay in Ajimobi’s burial- Makinde

The Oyo State Government has strongly denied insinuations that it is responsible for the delay in burying the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, who died on Thursday.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, indicated that the insinuations amounted to a wicked lie.

The statement read: “In view of the intense enquiries from news media organisations regarding the perceived delay in burying the late former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, the Oyo State Government wishes to place on record that there is no truth in the rumour making the rounds that the burial is being delayed by the state government.

“The rumour, which is being deliberately spread to give the state government a bad name and to play undue politics with the dead, initially came by the way of social media gossip, which gained traction to attract the attention of traditional media outfits.

“Several media outfits reached out to the Media Office of the Governor of Oyo State to make enquiries on this barefaced lie on Saturday.

“Let it be stated clearly that the Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has played no role at all in causing any delay whatsoever regarding the burial of his immediate predecessor, Senator Ajimobi.

“The truth of the matter is that the family, through a proxy, approached the state government and sought approval to bury the late governor on a plot of land at Agodi GRA, which is currently under litigation.

“Incidentally, it was the same former Governor Ajimobi who instituted the legal action.

“Governor Seyi Makinde had no choice than to state the facts as they are to the emissaries and turn down the request.

“Governor Makinde, however, against the established land use rule in Oyo State, gave approval that the family can bury the late governor in his Oluyole Estate residence.

“It is to be noted that the rules guiding land use in Government Reservation Areas (GRA) forbid the burial of bodies in such locations as Oluyole Estate and Agodi GRA.

“Let us also put on record that whereas the family did not follow the laid down protocols in passing information on the sickness and eventual demise of Senator Ajimobi, Governor Makinde overlooked all that and directed the full cooperation of the government with the family on this matter.

“It can only amount to a wicked lie to insinuate that the incumbent government in Oyo State attempted to obstruct the burial of the immediate past governor”.

Buhari says no one can break his bond with Tinubu

The presidency has dispelled speculation that President Muhammadu Buhari and national leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, have fallen out over the dissolution of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling party.

It has also maintained that the dissolution of the national leadership of the party led by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole was necessary to save the APC from imminent collapse.

A statement issued by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media & Publicity) in Abuja on Sunday said Buhari and Tinubu are still in touch with each other and their relationship remains strong.

It accused the opposition of trying without success to break the relationship.

The statement read: “The very essence of the requests put to the Emergency National Executive Committee meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by President Muhammadu Buhari, which were unanimously approved aim to pull back the party, faced with an existential crisis from the brink of collapse, follow the constitution and take everyone along.

“While this action has been widely accepted with great relief by lovers of democracy and the rank and file of the membership, we are concerned that political vulturism masquerading as “smart analysis” is selling the commentary that this is a Buhari-Tinubu “showdown.” Nothing can be farther from the truth.

“To put the records straight: In the formation of this great party and giving it leadership, President Buhari and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who are reckoned as the founding fathers of the APC are both inspired by democratic norms, national interest and not at all by partisan motivations. These are the qualities that have made them moved past cynical distractions.

“They are in touch with one another. Their relationship remains as strong as ever and between the two of them, only they know how they manage their enviable relationship.

“Try as hard as they could, the opposition parties have used all their intellectuals and their supporters in the media to break this relationship and have failed. And they won’t.

“For President Buhari who has received much of the cynical commentary, Nigerians know him as someone who will not do anything with bad intentions. Neither will he do anything out of partisan motivations or for himself.

“This whole exercise, that should lead to massive reform and overhaul of the leadership of the party, as he said in that brilliant speech, was ‘to save the APC from the imminent self-destruction. We have to move ahead. We have to take everyone with us and ensure that the party is run in accordance with democratic norms and with consensus. We have to work for the benefit of the country.’

“The leaders of the party, who have received two successive massive mandates to govern the country and a majority of the states should be judged by how this exercise turns out in achieving these objectives, not cursed at the mere commencement of the process.”
